Life Story So Far

Richard Hoedl with some original Landscape Paintings

Richard Hoedl was born and raised on a somewhat isolated farm in the frozen swampland of northern Alberta. He and his brothers learned early on to make their own fun and they created games from anything at hand. This was the beginning of Richard’s art.

“The cheerful animated colours of my dreamy landscapes represent my own view of the world inside me. My dreamscapes are free of the intrusions of humans, free of fear, guilt, or greed. There is always a place to go in my world, always a path to follow, always a way back home. I see life with a permanent vision of optimism with a dash of reality thrown in for good measure.

My desire is to make art solely for the beauty of art and the love of creativity… well and making a living is nice too.”

Richard Hoedl is a Professional West Coast artist, who creates original hand-painted oil paintings inspired by the Canadian landscape and nudes that are inspired by... well... naked people mostly! And the desire to capture that sense of beauty within his art.

Richard Hoedl is both academically trained and self-taught through years of personal creativity and development. He has been gallery represented from coast to coast and has held solo and group exhibitions across Canada for the last 20 years. His works, highly prized by collectors, are held in personal and corporate collections around the world.

This series of impressionistic landscape paintings are inspired by the Group of Seven and Emily Carr. Utilizing the old Renaissance art master's technique, the canvas is first painted with a warm orange ground (foundation). This brings soothing warmth to the entire completed painting. The images are filled with the feeling of movement and activity, yet are calm and dream-like to view. These works of art will be relaxing and enjoyable for years to come.

The importance of learning about art has translated into teaching art. Richard has spent considerable time instructing both art and the business of art and/or acting as mentor to numerous artists at all levels of expertise, from beginners to seasoned professionals. He is currently in the process of creating an art school specifically centered around the fundamentals of building and art career that can actually provide a living for the artists. Something that has been lacking in Art Education for many years.
